The Extractor Text Summarization Sample Application demonstrates some of the many uses of the "Extractor" Text Summarization Engine created by the National Research Council of Canada and the Interactive Information Group.

The Extractor Text Summarization Sample Application IS NOT the product being sold. This is a demonstration application that makes use of the Extractor Software Development Kit (SDK) as provided by DBI Technologies. The sample application was written using Visual Basic 6.0. Additionally, it makes use of several other components that have been developed by DBI technologies for the purposes of illustration.

WHAT CAN THIS SUMMARIZATION DEMO DO?:
The Extractor engine is able to summarize any type of document as long as the actual text is retrieved from that document and programmatically fed into the extraction engine. Examples of potential source documents include MS Word documents, E-mail, PDF documents, etc. Before an application can make use of Extractor's abilities, the developer designs the application so that it can obtain the text programmatically from the source document. Then Extractor can be called upon to perform its summarization functionality. The Extractor Text Summarization Demo processes regular text files (TXT), rich text format files (RTF), and Html files to illustrate the extraction engine's capabilities.
